Painted Ladies Logo

I recently got asked to design a new logo for the painting and decorating company 'Painted Ladies'. The company name was inspired by the Painted Lady butterfly so I wanted to incorporate that into the design. As the company deals with painting and decorating I thought it would be a good idea design the logo as a half painted butterfly.

Character designs

Here's an example of some concept character designs I did for a TV series currently in development in New Zealand.

My home-made Monsters!

Here's some examples of the creatures I make from time to time. The inspiration comes from a book called 'Stupid Sock Creatures' by illustrator John Murphy.

Egon Schiele artist study

My copy of Egon Schiele's drawing

Using Schiele's line quality (photo ref by Mary Ellen Mark)
Here's a copy of a drawing by Egon Schiele. Copying an artist helps me get into the right frame of mind before making my own drawings from photos (like the one above). Mary Ellen Mark is a great photographer to copy from (http://www.maryellenmark.com/):

I recently set up an evening life drawing class for the people at work. We currently don't have access to a life model but it's a nice way of getting everyone together to draw each other and forget about the computer screen for a bit. Here's some drawings I did in my second session:

Monster key ring

Following my phase of making sock monsters, I've now started designing key rings. Here's an example of one I made at Christmas.

Sketchbook

Here are some of my random doodles. I'm also currently working on some T-shirt designs in Illustrator, so keep stopping by to have a look.

Abstract shapes

This is an Illustration I did a few months ago that I've altered slightly in Illustrator. The inspiration comes from an artist called Audrey Kawasaki (http://www.audrey-kawasaki.com/galleries.php?g=2&p_id=172&page=2). I'm enjoying experimenting with techniques and abstract shapes in Illustrator so keep checking my blog for more to come ;)

When I was based in Iceland I got commissioned to illustrate two textbooks to be used colleges across the country. Here are some samples of the work I produced:

Another copy of a photograph from the travel photography book.

Lonely Boy

A while back I got given a travel photography book and found a picture of this lonely boy from Thailand. I enjoy drawing the human form but as I haven't got much access to life drawing classes, I practice my drawing using photographs.
